The threads of nominations only serves to heighten tensions, increase aggressiveness of the bad people, and piss a lot of people who have valid opinions but for some reason feel threatened by talk of this sort of thing. If no threats were ever made publicly, but the moderation happened the same, I suspect that we wouldn't have any (or most) of the rampant, irrational paranoia that continually hits this thread.
