On-line gaming is definitely the hottest growth area of the PC-Games industry. One reason that Sega is getting out of game machines is the competition from PCs and not just other dedicated game consoles. Games like StarCraft and CounterStrike have tens of thousands of users going head to head worldwide at any given moment. The game console makers want in on this and Microsoft see this not only as a market to serve, but as the elusive web top box that connects internet and TV.

as for the Xbox, while US launch is next week, i believe Japan is not scheduled to launch til like March, hence MSFT will miss the holiday season there.

9 days until Xbox launch in the US.

In terms of Japan, which holiday season will they miss?

The emperor's birthday?

The seven herbs of spring?

National Foundation day?
