amazed that PC games are so popular.
I am an avid gamer on PCs (and Clan member in several separate domains). The big difference in PC gaming is the ability to play other humans, years ago via modem, but now in large groups of 20 or 30 players per round on the internet. The gaming experience is far greater than that of computer generated opponents. Clan members can play from their own houses via high speed connections with as good a response as most consoles get directly connected. With a console you are usually limited to one opponent, have to take time to physically meet with your opponent or just play alone. We have microphones and headsets to keep communicate with voice-over-ip connections and so coordinate our movements versus our opponents. Some people use video over ip but mostly between rounds as it is a bandwidth hog. The players seem about half teens and half old guys with enough Germans and Spanish and Finnish speakers to keep the conversations interesting.
counter-strike.net (needs fast equipment)
blizzard.de (worldwide, can use slower equipment)
I mostly play war games, but the fantasy role playing internet games are also very popular.

Advanced graphics controllers such as nVidia give just about as good performance as the dedicated game controllers. A good experience on the latest games requires top of the line equipment, generally the fastest current machine, upgrade a year later, and replace it with the fastest a year after that. The expense level is the one main advantage that the dedicated console has over a PC (and is one reason why there are more adults and college students than teens on the game circuit).
