RNC calls for boycott of LA Times: Cartoon Links GOP to Taliban, Prompts Call for Newspaper Boycott By John Rossomando CNSNews.com Staff Writer November 06, 2001 (CNSNews.com) - The Republican National Committee (RNC) is demanding an apology from the Los Angeles Times, and urging Republicans to boycott the newspaper. This follows a recent political cartoon in the newspaper that depicted an elephant, the symbol of the GOP, dressed like a member of the Taliban holding a smoking rifle. "We're asking for an apology from the Los Angeles Times," RNC spokesman Trent Duffy said. The RNC believes the newspaper's decision to run the cartoon is "inexcusable." "It portrays Republicans as terrorists, and it's absolutely appalling, and needs to be changed," Duffy said.
