Conservation should and is being encouraged, but it has almost NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.

Data I've heard recently states that if we conserve at current rates we will need 6000 more power plants in the US over the next 10 years. If we implement the rollout of harsh restrictions on the fuel economy of vehicles we can reduce the number of new power plants to 5600.

We have a problem either way; additional conservation or not. We are too dependent on the middle east for oil, period.

I'd be happy to debate this, but it's seriously OT for this forum. The net is that significant substitutions won't happen until oil is priced significantly higher than it is today. Pricing signals are what determine usage, not "policy".
