Hi Snowshoe; That's true, but it wasn't as if (a) Iran told American citizens that Jimmy Carter was "dangerous", or (b) that Iran preferred Reagan to Carter.

If anything, that's a great example of the opposite tendency. Voters tend to support the right wing or warlike candidates when their country is threatened. Maybe there's a counter example, the world is wide and history is long, but I can't think of it. Humans tend to be confrontational when threatened.
