OK, KT, first report on your recommendations.

I was at a store today called Tobacco USA (good place on the web to buy coffee, and only a half-mile from our house) and I found several of the recommended zinfandels there. As mentioned, the Frogleap and Ggrich Hills were (by my standards) somewhat expensive, while the Ravenswood Vinter's Choice was about $12.50.

But we went out to dinner this evening to a place that on Wednesdays offers bottles of wine at half price. And there was the Ravenswood on the wine list for $19 so we got it for $9.50, or well below the store price.

Very good. Dry but rich, full-bodied, more character than most of what I drink, thoroughly satisfactory, a very nice assertive red. Gee-- I am on my way (maybe) to developing a vocabulary for wine. Better than learning to discuss Postmodernism or Deconstructionism.

Thanks for the recommendation. We really enjoyed it.

Next time I must bring their wine list home and copy it all out here to see who knows what about the entries. I foresee a lot of Wednesday nights at that place.
