I don't have personal knowledge either way, but it has been fairly widely reported, e.g.:

As of several months ago microsoft bay area was advertising on hotjobs.com for Solaris skilled sys admins. Recently theyve been a little more veiled about the skills there looking for as its bad press to publicly state that your using Sun servers - 2 years ago hotmail was running on several Sun 6500's as well as WebTV. These were purchased while Microsoft had already purchased both companies - i havent been around Hotmail in a while but WebTV still is running on Sun and Oracle.
