John: QCOM strength probably due to two things:

1. Analysts and serious investors know how to read between the lines and how to listen to conference calls.

2. Lots of overly enthusiastic shorts who expected to make a quick kill this morning are getting killed.

This is a gift to call writers. With a forward PE of 50-55 and a PEG of 5, no reason to buy at current price as the risk (10-20%) outweighs short-term reward. However, those with a long, long term look may be able to justify buying at present.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why Qcom is trading up this morning on very, very high volume.

I'm considering the Dec 55's also....but I am trying to figure out if I should wait until the analyst's meeting tomorrow. I fail to see much bad news that they could possibly release during the meeting that wouldnt have been already been announced during earnings.

Some of the houses have been defending qcom. The question is whether they will continue to do so, or if it is just a ploy to allow them to unload their shares.

I agree, though, that qcom's trading pattern today is unexpected and improbable.
