The problem at root was that a couple of minor accounting adjustments, which were to put Qualcomm in the most conservative possible stance, overwhelmed what was important - the substance, the fundamentals and the future. Yep, management blew it from a tactical standpoint. So now what. From a management standpoint it is clear that to have an accountant as the pretense COO is nonsense. And that accountant messed up bad in thinking through what should have been simple - get the bad accounting adjustments out before, repeat before, the year end cc. There is a management need, and that is a Sulpizio replacement - a no nonsense hard driving operations man for COO. Thornley ain't it. Let's hope the Jacobs family gets in an outsider as COO to manage the day to day business and avoid debacles such as this latest one reflected in how the cc was mishandled. Enough. Now to what matters most - the substance. Looking good. And in the area of looking among the ashes caused by the cc, there is no change evident in the overall Q business plan or even in its execution (except accounting adjustments). What was sad from my standpoint was the missed opportunity for discussion of what matters - the path for adoption of 1x, 1xEV and (eventually CDMA)- and the vital contribution CDMA can make to the mobile wireless internet/intranet nexus around the world. Instead the focus was on all that is not really either important or relevant - accounting adjustments which are temporary. A major missed opportunity. But then, the company is on track. Onward and upward. <G> Best as always. Cha2
