That area is followed by subsequent overhead in the area around 35.00 which formerly served as support. To the downside, look for initial support at 33.00 followed by additional support in the range of 31.55 to 31.85.

06:41 ET Hewlett-Packard (HWP) 19.81: Company's Board members issue statement, with the exception of Walter B. Hewlett, that it is fully committed to HP leadership and the Compaq (CPQ) transaction. Statement follows reports yesterday that the influential Hewlett family, which maintains a 5% stake in HWP, is opposed to the merger.

OPEC talk of an aggressive production cut not helping much. Markets focused on tomorrow’s ECB meeting.
06:30 ET Asian Markets : Nikkei -3.28%, Hang Seng -0.83% -- Asian stocks mixed. Japan hit hard on banking sector weakness. Disappointing earnings from Qualcomm also weighed heavily on shares such as Kyocera. Taiwan closed 1.8% higher however on rate cut expectations and a removal of investment restrictions on China. SK Telecom dragged Korea lower on the back of a 7% decline in third quarter profits.
