It was simply an outrageous display of vulgarity and hatred that served no purpose. The person you directed it to did nothing to warrant your reaction. You simply blew it and the suspension was justified. I'm hoping the more sane Tim will continue to post here as he is a valuable contributor. EP

Tim, Well said, but like Elmer mentioned, I hope you understand that your suspension had to do with more than just censorship of your expletives. I, too, am hoping to glean more from your very well done commentaries, without you feeling the need to make your point by being confrontational. wanna_bmw P.S. Gosh darn it, we are not fcking children. Example: "I'm going to _tell_!" One of the sad effects of a climate of censorship and this kind of banal moderation is the rise in the number of "tattle-tales." Often these are the very same people baiting others and using the "fsck you!" euphemisms. Instead of either ignoring those they don't wish to read, they engage in endless rounds of "You have gone too far!" and "I am reporting this violation of netiquette to SI!" and "See you in a week!" idiocy. Censorship frequently results in a feeding frenzy of meta-debate about what the censors should do, how the rules were applied unevenly, etc. I wholeheartedly agree about the "frenzy of meta-debate" and try* to save those sorts of comments for PMs. What you say about "tattle-tales", I would put in the category of idle threats, of which this is an example: Message 16444084 "I'll take pleasure in tracking down the real name of anyone who does this." So were you able to apply your Internet wiles to hunt down & shoot the bastard who got you suspended from SI? <smirk><snicker>
