Um, you guys were comparing it to the KT266A, and the question was why the nForce cost more than it. Whether or not Intel boards have these features is a tangential issue. Plenty of non-Intel boards have those features, too, but it's irrelevant. :p

NO Intel board has EVER had competent graphics built in. Intel graphics are below the level of a TNT2 Vanta, which is already 3X slower than the NVidia GeForce2 MX400.

wbmw,

I might point out that these things have been available on Intel boards for years.

But I know... the nForce is supposed to be better, right?

Graphics has been available on Intel boards since 810, but it is a POS. Do you seriously not see the difference in graphics between Intel boards and NVidia?

As far as sound and network, these have not been part of Intel southbridge chipset, but external chips, and these have been available for Slot A chips.

The only potential competition in the level of integration is Sis with their 730 chipset, but all of the components are of lower quality, and it is only single channel SDRAM.

The nForce onboard video will get you better than 60-70 fps in Q3. How good is Intels built in video solutions?
Dig deep, you will see.

The nForce audio is also very good...much better than other onboard audio.

I suspect nForce had a touch of Timna disease and it took a little longer to get everything to work. At least they weren't stupid like Intel and tried to put the CPU on the same chip...man that was dumb. I saw the demise of Timmy a year out...
Also remember that when the first benches of the nForce came out there was no KT-266A which significantly increased performance...so the KT-266A stole some nForce thunder...
Still the options for Athlons is very good and about to get even better.
