ASIAINFO - November 08, 2001 17:18
CHINA, Nov 08, 2001 (AsiaPort via COMTEX) -- Although Chinese domestic mobile phone manufacturers has viewed the Unicom CDMA project as a great opportunity, but they have great discontents with American Qualcomm, the CDMA technology patent holder. As the return to Qualcomm for Chinese employment of CDMA technology, Qualcomm would deduct 2.65% from the profit of each handsets sold in China and 7% from sold abroad as the technologic employment charge.

Such high cost stirred up many complaints of Chinese domestic manufacturers. The high cost technologic employment charge aggravated mentality of the domestic manufacturers who are less certain about the competition between DCMA and GSM. But compared with foreign handset manufacturers, the real market situation compelled the Chinese manufacturers to stack their chips on the CDMA market.

Not only the discontent from Chinese enterprises, but also abroad enterprises, the discontent of Korea handsets manufacturers has reached the highest point, Korea Telecom and other 6 Korea handsets manufacturers have announced to allied themselves, through the legal measures to press Qualcomm to adjust its charge mode which decided by Qualcomm itself.

Zhejiang Huali Group has announced that they had purchased the CDMA design business of Philips in Vancouver and Dalas successfully, this almost include the all the intellectual property, research and develop equipments, research data, research staffs and Philips Semiconductor CDMA protocol software of Philips wireless telecommunication departments.
