You are absolutely correct. One of the greatest myths floating around is that the Republican Party is in favor of states' rights and "less federal government." The GOP is in favor of such only when it serves the party's purpose. Another example would be GOP opposition to municipalities suing handgun manufacturers and its opposition to any state trying to impose stricter regulations on firearms. As for Mr. Ashcroft, he had better focus most of his energies on the war vs. terrorism.
