AMD is not positioning Hypertransport as a standard, but rather as a licensable protocol that offers high bandwidths at low pin counts. Any other company that doesn't have their own proprietary method for interconnecting chips ought to seriously consider licensing others' technologies, including AMD's. It saves on the research, the development, and the validation of a new protocol.

But, hey, kudos to AMD doing it, anyway.
