Yes and no. A prime example would be the so-called economic recovery bill that passed the House on a 216-214 vote a couple weeks ago. It is a clear-cut example of right-wing extremism in its worst form. Billions of dollars for Big Business, pennies for those who toil.

The danger of having someone like Tom DeLay represent the Republicans in the House is that extreme legislation occasionally becomes law. In the case of the obscene economic recovery bill, for instance, the Republican intent clearly was to start from an extreme position so that when the bill is worked out in House-Senate committee, the House Republicans can argue they conceded this and that for the sake of national unity, etc. Which, of course, is a bunch of BS.
