Maybe the U.S. could be a bit less intransigent on: 1) its insistence that land mines are a good thing, that chemical and biological warfare treaties don't need signing, 2) that a permanent world court for criminals like Bin Laden would actually serve us better than hauling his sorry arse back to the Southern District of Manhattan for arraignment, 3) that pushing "star wars" is such a bright idea, 4) that thumbing our noses with punitive tariffs aimed at those "cute cuddly Canadians" mentioned on another SI thread to pander to our over-priced lumber producers (who are reliable GWB and GOP contributors), 5) and creating ridiculous and punitive tariffs for the triple-creme camembert producers of France in response to sensible questions about our artificial hormone-laced beef and frankenfoods, our insatiable desire to protect the interests of Chiquita/United Fruit, 6) our unwillingness to play nice with the rest of the world in its concerns about pig-headed CO2 emissions and global warming, 7) our ridiculous spreading of crap culture to parts of the world that we are diworsifying, 8) our penchant for destructive capital games like the hanky-panky that turned dozens of Asian real estate projects into American banker trinkets with the convenient intervention of our puppet IMF...... I could go on, but I don't want to bore you. BTW, did any of the abuses of power I've just run through in any way increase your net worth or provide you with income? No? Me either. Seems we support these things as a nation for someone else's benefit. I just never happen to meet the lucky recipients of all our nation's foreign policy tweaking efforts in my circle of friends. YMMV. -Ray
