and trade, which is money land and people all together

it is hard to see it all as that simple
let's not forget "belief systems"
Romans went to war when threatened by belief in gods or God

some communist nations offered little threat to borders
but their beliefs eliminated all rights
and institutionalized atheism and property

I would add "rights" and "beliefs" to your list
but just splitting hairs, since these are people issues

and of course, by land you include resources like "gold"
which was money for centuries

fascinating show last night on History Channel about naval warfare
sailing ships then steam powered
wooden ships then ironclads
cannon ball ammunition then exploding balls
Crimean War then US Civil War

Well, actually I was thinking more about the fact that many elements of present day international capital flow are unregulated, not just the hawala system, but also "offshore" banks, and how this gives conniptions to central banks, which are struggling to institute what they call "transparancy," which I read as "supervision."

As for what wars are fought over, beats me. I see war as similar to litigation, an expensive and inefficient way to solve problems, but essential when you are engaged in a zero-sum game. Wars not only cost a lot of money and lives, but often make the situation worse than it was to begin with. That's because very little in life can really be reduced to a zero-sum game.

Obviously, if you are not the one who started the war, you don't have a lot of choice about the matter.
