That is mindboggling to me even though I happen to own some, no way would I think of that as a "gorilla", but then all this is what makes horseracing, no? Well, if you can come up with another application software company that holds the niche leadership in manufacturing SCM I would be curious to know who holds more market share. i2 and Manugistics pretty much are the remaining SCM specific application software providers, but the tornado was long ago.So what is Geoff's list, hmmmmm? To act on his ideas, we need to know don't we? I mentioned what has been discussed in his book and on the list which the majority of fall under the category of more mature companies in technology - Silverbacks. I don't think one needs to know his "list". He was hinting at the premise of focusing on important category leaders that have dominant leadership in their space via criteria in the manual. It's no secret that companies like Microsoft, Intel, Cisco, etc... are not going to be closing their doors in this economic downturn and have the cash and cash equivalents to survive through the cyclical bottom. On the other hand, the premise that leaders in past bull markets are no guarantee that they will lead or be big winners in future bull markets should be in the back of one's mind. Hence, I prefer a mix of big category leaders and smaller, younger companies in technology to reside in my technology portion of the portfolio.PS BTW your portfolio seems to be a bit broader than only "existing gorillas" as I understand from your posts. Yes. In addition to a mix within technology of mature category leaders and younger companies in niche markets (such as Juniper, Brocade, Nvidia, Ciena, Sonus, BEA Systems, Broadcom, etc...) - biotechnology, drugs, health care, oil service, transportation, retail, leisure, financials, consumer staples, media, internet, funds, bonds, REITs, cash, real estate, etc... are all part of the mix. However, what serves one for a variety of reasons does not serve another. BB
