Not that much different from trying to profit from the semiconductor equipment cycle, I'd say, except that the latter may actually be easier. I've often thought that selling half one's AMAT every time it doubles and doubling one's position every time it falls by half would make money over many years. Maybe something like XLK or SMH would be a better vehicle though, from the point of view of reducing specific stock risk.
