In the elegant Balfour Declaration, Lord Balfour said:

"His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

But he later said in a memorandum to his cabinet colleagues dated 11 August 1919:

"In Palestine we do not even propose to take the wishes of the current inhabitants into consideration… The four great powers are obliged to Zionism. Right or wrong, good or bad, Zionism is rooted in a long tradition, in the present necessities, in future hopes, which are of greater importance than the wishes and the disadvantages of 700,000 Arabs, who currently live in this historic land."

No, I think that the term anti-semite gets applied to those anti-zionists who support their arguments by fabricating quotes and events and attacking the Jewish religion per se. Others of this ilk look to identify the Jews in every facet of American or European life and denigrate them with false accusations that have nothing to do with anything they have ever said or done and , often, nothing to do with Israel. Another sign of the anti-semite is what I call "creating Jews"--i.e., Rudolph Giuliani is a Jew, George Tenet is a Jew, George Bush is a Jew, etc. A fourth indication is for a non-Palestinian to be obsessed with denouncing Israel, to the exclusion of all the world's far worse "atrocities." All of this reflects more than just an anti-Zionist animus; it reflects a dislike of Jews as Jews.

Now, len, that is not true.

Many seem to lose sight of the fact that Israel is a member of the United Nations (no comments on this!). It has a recognized right to exist. Period.

And to say that anyone who supports Israel is a Zionist is absolutely ridiculous! For several reasons:

a. You are giving Zionism a negative cast here. Some may not agree with this. Terms should universally be agreed on.

b. Many people who remain quiet support Israel's right to exist in peace. What is wrong with this?

c. You are putting your own prejudices onto everyone else here, it seems? What does this make you?

And, face it. Possession is 9/10 of the law. With whom are you going to argue? To what effect?
