Let's consider a situation in the future where a 4GHz Intel processor is launched, and it beats a Hammer Model 4500+.

Under this situation, AMD would not get that far ahead of itself in the first place.

On the other hand, if Intel starts to concentrate on the balanced performance of the processor, rather than on the clock speed of part of the silicon, we may get back to the point when Intel and AMD CPUs at the same clock speed are at rough performance penalty, AMD may drop the Model numbers.
