"I think that the reason why big OEM loosing market share to SD-shop and DIY market."

Since HP and Compaq announced that little merger deal, there is a great, gaping window for them. Because of the announcement, it very well may be that Compaq will die, whether they actually merge or not. HP will more than likely survive, and Dell will grow even fatter and happier than they are now. Dell has already allowed their performance and reliability to slip, rumors have it that customer service is not too hot, either. Now from my personal (and very limited) experience, the first two are true, we didn't have any problem with getting their crap fixed. It doesn't really make any difference, once Dell is the overwhelming dominate force, there will be other mushrooms sprouting to nibble at their edges. Nothing like a local provider to give you really good service...

At that, AMD may actually be in an opportune position with the Hammers. There might be a window for the smaller guys to provide servers and workstations. Yeah, Tony, Paul, et al. will scream that corporations won't trust them to do it, but it wasn't that long ago that they would have distrusted anything Intel-based for those functions either...
