Although you didn't mention the rest of this error message it seems to be a common error. Every mention of the BR_SRVC.DLL was linked to the file mentioned in this link. Searching Microsoft for "out of memory" and word 97 came up with the possibility of an out of date printer driver if you're using an HP printer. They suggested visiting HP and seeing if an updated driver is available.

Here's the link that the tech support guy said he would post near the bottom of the page linked above.

Perhaps a reinstall of Word will bail you out. Unless the 32 ram you mentioned was a misprint, I don't see how a PIII running 98 would not greatly benefit from a ram upgrade. Is that not well below the minimum suggested requirements? It's a dirt cheap way to boost your computer's performance. You might try visiting crucial.com or some other ram seller. You should be able to buy 4 times the ram you currently use for less than $20.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I couldn't find much.

Larry,

I don't believe that the boot error message is related to the Word 97 file saving problem. 32M is not a lot of RAM, so your system is probably using the swap file for additional virtual memory. If you are getting low on free disk space, this could be causing the problem.

A couple of things that you could try:

1. End all running program except Explorer and Systray. You can do this by pressing alt-ctrl-delete, selecting each program listed and clicking on End Task. After you have ended all programs (except Explorer and Systray), try to open and save a Word document.

2. Check how much free space you have on your hard drive by opening my computer, right click on the C: drive and select properties. If you are getting low on free space you will have to delete some files from your hard drive. You can do this by clicking on the disk cleanup button. After freeing up some space on your hard drive, try to open and save a Word document.

Hope this helps.

B.K.
