If they get the production silicon they are waiting for within the next few days, they could begin a high priority rush through the fab, and get out low volume production shipments before January.

They probably would have lots on hold at metal so even early December wafer outs is entirely possible. I would think it's unlikely there are any bugs and any steppings now would be to raise binsplits.

What about the possibility that it really is first silicon and it's not just a dumb shrink? That would put them 6-9 months away from intro and they'd be making excuses along about now.
