Sorry I couldn't be of more help but the additional info didn't lead me to anything new. I don't have a clue what that dll is associated with or what it might do. If you have your 98 installation disk you might try going to start/run and type in "sfc" (without quotes) and then click ok. System file checker may find it if it's been corrupted and prompt you to put in the 98 disk and extract a new copy. Someone running 98 might check their computer for the missing file and email it to you. I'm running XP and it's not on my computer. Hope this helps.

Larry,

I am running W98 and my Word 97 has no problems. The "required file" BR_SRVC.dll is not on my machine, so it is not likely from the core file set of Windows 98 or from the Word installation. I guess it could be a driver file for your printer, but it seems strange that would keep you from saving files.

I guess that's not worth a 20+, but I'll settle for a 10. <ggg>

Dan

Larry, I did a net search for the BR_SRVC.DLL and found a number of links referencing this dll. However only a few contained any kind of answer. This DLL seems to cause a number of different problems, not necessarily related. I'm not sure which one would apply to you, if any but it's a start. You will have to read down the page for some of the info related to the dll. Hope it helps.

As I'm sure you have seen by now Dan Duchardt searched for the br_svrc file on his 98 and word installation. It must have originated from some other program. It's questionable whether a reinstall of word or 98 will do any good. Here's a couple of standard things to try. Empty everything in your c/windows/Temp folder. Some strange things happen if too much garbage accumulates in this folder. The already posted idea by BK about stopping what is running and then trying to save a word document sounds worth a try as well. You can expand that idea and go to start/run and type in msconfig and go to startup tab and after noting (write it down) everything that has a checkmark in the box left of the names, click in the boxes and clear all but explorer and systray. Restart and then try word again. If that is successful you can put the checkmarks back in one at a time and reboot until the offending program is identified. Most of these programs do not need to be loaded on startup anyway and drag your resources down. Finally, skip dinner tonight and use the bucks to buy some ram for that poor machine. It's dying of hunger.
