Rick Storm: Adding my two cents (FWIW)

I've had the same question regarding the "trigger" to send the indices into a significant correction. My best guesses are:

1. Earnings warning season by several high-profile tech companies may raise the fear or specter that earnings recovery/recession may not occur until late in 2002 rather than Q2.

2. Chip sector may continue to give negative earnings reports and guidance due to severe pricing pressure among the chipmakers and failure of orders to materialize.

3. Retrenchment of the consumer due to increasing personal debt and fears related to rapidly rising unemployment rate.
The consumer sentiment numbers may NOT be an indication of how much (or little) the consumer spends this Holiday Season.

4. Earnings revisions and downgrades from analysts. Analysts may realize that they have been too optimistic in their forecasts and, coupled with rich valuations in several sectors, may begin to downgrade stocks in December.

5. Tax-loss selling.

As for QLTI, yes, I am waiting for prices under $17.5.
