Yes, the security system thing I remember, too. Bin Laden simply wasn't on the scene as a terrorist back then. If anything he would have been Ollies buddy. :-)

OK, it looks like this story has even been around for a while. Check this out from the Urban Legends site I found: 


Claim:   Oliver North stated during the 1987 Iran-Contra
      hearings that Osama bin Laden was "the most evil 
      person alive" and that "an assassin team [should] 
      be formed to eliminate him and his men from the 
      face of the earth." 

 Status:   False.
