I feel the beginnings of a Mastercard ad coming:

Laser guided bomb - $25,000-50,000.

"Daisy cutters" - $25,000.

Wreaking psychological havoc amongst those tribes who haven't yet been convinced to change sides or remain neutral - priceless.

There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's the US defense budget.:)

Visa policy altered for Arabs, Muslims

Haven't found a link for this - read it in an Associated Press story in today's Houston Chronicle.

It said the visa process for young men from Arab and Muslim nations will be slowed down so a search for evidence of terrorist activities can be made.

"Asked if the new policy raised questions of racial profiling, the spokesman said, "As a nation we have a right and a duty to make sure our borders are safe."

Hey, what took 'em so long?

"... a $25,000-50,000 laser guided bomb to knock out a mere truck..." The truck appears empty, to boot.

Nice Raytheon catalog, though. "The Paveway II series of laser guided bombs is currently in full-scale production and is being delivered to customers around the world."

O.K., I'll take one of each of those nifty things.<g>.

I completely abhor the concept of expending a $25,000-50,000 laser guided bomb to knock out a mere truck

you will change your mind after you enlist and your butt is on the line.

Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "But I completely abhor the concept of expending a $25,000-50,000 laser guided bomb to knock out a mere truck, as depicted here at Raytheon's website:"

War is supposed to be incredibly expensive. It always has been, and it always will be (I hope; cheap war would be horrible). I would think that the PGMs are a bargain. What's the figure for casualties per round of rifle ammunition fired? I don't have a good sources, but I recall that it was supposed to be 200,000 rounds per casualty. If so, that would put a $25~$50,000 PGM at a bargain price for destroying a truck, it's driver, his assistant, and maybe the squad or two sitting in back, or at the very least leaving a bunch of guys in the lurch for resupply.
