Varying degrees of legal coercion are the order of the day in a world of varying views. It happens in offices, unions, political parties and human relationships. It even happens in the Philippines. It is not remarkable that the Catholic church or any other church would want to influence events in accord with its teachings.

One man's dirty work is another man's duty.

If you would prefer religious organizations to take their money and go home, tell your local authorities.

Americans (Catholic or otherwise) are not as naive as you seem to suppose.
