The purpose of my discussion on technology was to demonstrate that a real difference exists today in the defeat by military means the Taliban and bringing justice to binnie. The attack of 911 was based upon using bluff and not technology. the 911 attack of using large commercial planes as bombs will be prevented by a simple lock on the cabin door. Other technology can reduce the rick of any plane being hijacked. Technology can be used to make it much more difficult for those who want to come to America.

As to the complexity of the War. The only complexity is getting enough logistic support for moving and advancing troops. But when you know every move the enemy is making and every location where they are dug in, the precision of delivery of firepower on target will destroy the ability of an enemy to fight.

>>>what difference does it make what they do or do not understand over there?

In all endeavors human, there is place for the workers and a place for the supervisors. Technology helps those who manage the worker, or solders how to be efficient and how to best deploy.

It's called the Order Of Battle. Our technology allows us to use human resources very effectively. To use the Afghans as ground troops in our efficient OOB it takes time to instruct them in the rules. The other issue is trust. Folks who don't have indoor plumbing may not believe what they are told at first and are very cautious. Also I believe it took time to build up the logistic supply chain to make it possible for the Northern Alliance to advance.

The Northern Alliance was not really planning or geared up to fight an offensive war. So considering that they are now involved in major advances in just several weeks time again speaks to American know how.

I don't think the creating martyr makes any difference. It takes money and a place to train. After 911 all countries will have to deal with the Bush doctrine. I suspect that no country will allow terrorists to train or plot in their country.

Based upon my understanding of what is involved I place America 2 months ahead on the time line. I'm very impressed with how effectively President Bush has created a coalition and is waging a War with only a few hundred troops in country.

As to all acts, the elements are method, motive and opportunity. Eliminating the motive is difficult. But opportunity takes money and the freedom to move about freely. In the methods there are processes that can betray motive and this can also eliminate opportunity.

Hi, Walking. I enjoyed your thoughtful post. I believe your ideas concerning interlinked economies will be the eventual long term solution, but this will be a tough nut due to the disconnect between the "government" and the people in many mid-east countries. The ruling elite do not seem to want to provide for and encourage the economic freedom and advance of their own people. This provides fertile ground for bitterness and transference of anger to the "great satan". The merger of church and state makes the situation even more intransigent.
