Scalping was a common practice in Europe, known to have been practiced by the 11th Century Earl of Wessex. The Indians used it for the reasons set forth below, and it was that day's equivalent of a suicide bombing, except that the natives were truly being subjected to a genocide, and germ warfare in the form of the intentional spread of smallpox. The treatment of the Native Americans was a shameful chapter in our nation's history, and should be viewed today the same way, in retrospect, that we view slavery. That you would defend the genocide of the Native Americans seems contrary to your self-appointed role of advocate of the oppressed.
