Propane fueled vehicles: Here is a GM site with some statements about the safety of AFV’s (Alternate Fuel Vehicles), however it does not give much detail.

I don’t know for a fact, but I would hope that the tanks would be designed to withstand a high-speed impact as well as have internal check valves to stop the escape of gas in case the connections were broken in the crash. I suppose these vehicles are about as safe as the gasoline fueled variety.

Having said that, I think that diesel is now the most practical choice for fleet operators of commercial size small vehicles rather than propane.
