It was an experiment, an attempt to build a nation on a theory. Were it not for idealistic intellectuals willing to risk their lives for those ideals, you would be bowing to a monarch. Were it not for millions of others since, everyday folk and intellectuals alike, all willing to fight to defend those ideals, you would be cowering before dictators. Your railing against intellectuals (I doubt I qualify, BTW) as if they were somehow unworthy of being called fellow Americans, only reveals your own bitterness, fear of ideas and general intolerance of views other than your own. You say I betray my country? I say you are a narrow-minded, scared little fool and a disgrace to this country.
