If the patent applications are based on THEIR OWN
R&D, I have no problem with that. The point you are
trying to ignore is that they tried to capitalize
on other's R&D, SCI for example, and other public domain
ideas. They seem succeeded by wrapping those ideas into
All-in-One RamBUS-1, and tried to sell it. Intel,
with all their R&D, tried the All-in-One RamBUS for
5 years since 1991, and found the idea non-working.
Which means that the patented ideas of Rambus "own R&D"
have failed.
Rambus had to pedal back to more conventional
bus, and called it "Direct RamBUS". To what extent it is
the achievement of Rambus, I don't know, I rather attribute
the development of Direct Rambus to Intel powerful R&D.
I also do not know of any patents that are explicit to the
actual DRDRAM.

Now, which Research and Development are you referring to?
