Let's complete the analogy. That's how Rambus sold you its bill of goods. Now, remember that you're in a business with a 7% net (so 2% of the gross equals 29% of your profits). It turns out that when a company builds a boat with 1 (less expensive and no royalties) non-rambus engine (1 DDR channel) it is faster than a boat with 2 of your rambus engines (2 RDRAM channels), and when you try to build engines according to the designs specs provided, it's a disaster (the 3 RIMM designs) and you have to pay to re-engineer the whole thing yourself.

Now you know how Samsung and Intel feel...
