6:47am 11/12/01 Applied Mat. to cut orders outlook: UBS (AMAT) By Tomi Kilgore Analyst Byron Walker at UBS Warburg expects Applied Materials (AMAT) to meet its earnings target when it reports fiscal fourth-quarter results on Wednesday, but thinks it will lower bookings expectations for the fiscal first quarter. Walker thinks the chip equipment maker will miss its previous orders forecast of $1.2 billion by approximately 20 percent. Although he sees orders bottoming in January, he expects them to remain at low levels through the "middle-third" of 2002. Walker reiterated his "hold" rating on the stock and $38 price target, saying the rally over the last several weeks makes the stock "fully valued by any metric." The shares closed Friday up 17 cents at $38.57.
