Let's hope it was "just" an accident. From the early reports, though, it went down without much warning, and in a populated area, doesn't look good.

They said it was going to Santo Domingo. I'm not sure if the baggage passes through customs in NY or in Santo Domingo. I assume it is there, so if someone wanted to put explosives on a bag (no indication of this, just speculating), I wonder if the bags pass through any detection device. If not, they should.

As I said, though, let's hope it was a tragic accident and not another terrorist act. Not that the families would get much comfort in either case.
