Hi Jdaasoc; My guess with SiS is that they started a chipset a couple of years ago, and now they want to have it available in the (unlikely) event that RDRAM gets cheap. SiS has at least 9 DDR chipsets already:

It would be more interesting if Rambus had gotten SiS to agree to pay royalties on their DDR chipsets, but that doesn't seem to be implied by the press release. Who knows, maybe Rambus is giving them a "pass" on their DDR chipsets in return for making like they're going to support Rambus in the future. That would be an advantageous agreement for both parties.

I was under the impression that the SiS chipset was going to be single channel. That would be a very difficult row to hoe for an expensive DRAM. But until we get word of just what that chipset involves, who knows.
