Yes, lots of political threads running through the implementation of a smallpox vaccination program. I can imagine complaints about cities getting the vaccinations first. Or some conspiracy theories about the Jews tainting the vaccinations given at Islamic community centers. Or why this group got full strength vaccine and that group got half strength. It would be a mess. We don't want to get into any of that unless there's a clear and present danger, IMO.

This morning I heard an expert estimate 500-1000 deaths if we vaccinate everyone, plus an unknown number of non-fatal complications.

P.S. In the course of that interview on CNN, Paula Zahn said that her personal physician advised her not to get a flu shot because it could mask developing anthrax. That's all she said. I assumed the doctor meant the reaction to the flu shot. It wasn't clear and I found it odd. FWIW, I didn't have a bit of a reaction to my flu shot.
