CPQ - RESEARCH ALERT-CSFB raises Compaq to 'Buy' from 'Hold'
biz.yahoo.com
NEW YORK, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday raised his investment rating on No. 2 personal computer maker Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ) to ``buy'' from ``hold.''

Compaq shares were up 12.6 percent, rising $1.11 to $9.91 -- making it one of the top percentage gainers in heavy trade on the New York Stock Exchange Wednesday.

No further details from McCarthy were immediately available.

Compaq shares were given a boost by strong earnings results on Wednesday morning from Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP), which plans to buy Compaq. Analysts said Hewlett's fiscal fourth-quarter profits beat expectations, increasing investor confidence in HP's management.
