I am reading on FreeRepublic.com that the pilot did not have time to dump his fuel,

I wondered about the timing as well. The next-to-nothing that I know about airplanes comes mostly from disaster movies and previous crashes. I seem to recall that it took quite a while to dump fuel from that plane that crashed in Nova Scotia and that delaying the landing to dump the fuel contributed to the crash. What FreeRepublic is saying makes sense.
