Yes, the immediate heir of the Democratic- Republicans was the Democratic Party. The Federalists eventually dissolved, some forming the Whig Party, which was more nationally oriented. The Whigs, of course, finally gave birth to the modern Republican Party, as its anti- slavery faction. (It is ironic that some who despise Lincoln should have found a home in the Republican Party)......Lincoln, of course, was elected with a plurality, and conscious of the weakness of his position. He had no plans for immediate abolition. And yet, the South seceded, with no more provocation than his election.......By the way, do you think Parliament/Funkadelic played at the Inaugural Ball.......(George Clinton, P Funk, get it.....)
