Interesting, but I would think if a missile had been fired in the daytime at least some of the witnesses would have reported seeing its trail. ...

In the case of TWA 800, there were about a dozen eyewitnesses whose reports were consistent with a missile, but Clinton's tame investigation ignored them.

does it have to be a missile? could the "pop" eyewitnesses heard simply have been the shot from a 50 caliber sniper rifle?
