Here's a column by Paul Krugman on the Administration's view of energy, relevant to Foreign Affairs to the extent energy policy affects foreign policy,

I normally consider Krugman to be a worthy alternative perspective on economics, especially regarding Japan's need to devalue the Yen.

But those comments of his you posted are tremendously myopic.

Instead, they were opportunities to advance an agenda that had nothing to do with the crisis at hand.

In fact, Krugman seems to be advocating short term solutions to long-term problems which impact our national and economic security. And it would seem he claims any attempt by the federal government to use market forces to create market solutions is "an agenda".

It doesn't require a Phd in economics from Harvard to realize that if we are reliant upon a vital economic resource being made available from an inherently unstable geo-political region, that we're held hostage to those very same politics.

Maybe Krugman just isn't "getting it" this time around...

Or perhaps he's gotten so close to the handwriting on the wall that he's no longer able to read the message..
