Hi BigBull; If you read carefully (in translation) what Osama bin Laden says, you will find that his reasoning is not one of a suicidal man, but is that of a man who rationally expects victory due to the inability of Americans to be tough enough to beat the living daylights out of him. This feeling is undoubtedly shared among a lot of his followers. Very few people (Moslem or otherwise) willingly sign up to go to their useless, pointless, painful and unheralded death against an enemy that they cannot even touch or see, much less hurt.

When we had Iraq over the barrel, Bush Sr. tied back up the dogs of war and the end result was a far, far, far worse humanitarian problem than if he'd let them run. This time, I doubt Bush Jr. is giving the military any advice on how to run a war.

But damn, there's no question that the US military knows exactly how to put the fear of God into the enemy. They must have spent quite the effort figuring this out. One sees how all the psyops leaflets and radio messages they've been putting out must have contributed to the feeling of unease.

Maybe I was wrong and we'll never have to prove that we're tougher than the Taliban on the ground.
