I think the carpet bombing did the trick.

I dunno why, but US always makes the enemy appear bigger than it normally is.

During the Gulf War, CNN kept harping on Repubican Guards and how undefeatable they were. Everyone in the Middle East knew the Republican Guards had a LOT of 13-16 year olds...and they'd all fall at the first blow....but CNN made them out to be extremely heroic and mighty...LOL

They begged to surrender from day one...

Maybe Talibaan has been hyped as well ? Afghans are normally fierce warriors. But hunger and exhaustion takes its toll even on the bravest of all. Northern Alliance has always been like a rag army. If they can defeat Taliban, well, that means T must already have broken down under the last few days of relentless air assault...and whatever is left, is probably being conserved for one final do-or-die response...
