MANILA, Nov 13 (AFP) -
The Philippine government's role in the US-led global war against terrorism is "extremely valuable" in strengthening military cooperation between the two allies, the commander of the American forces in the Pacific said Tuesday.

"The response from the Philippines, from President Arroyo, has been very heart warming in terms of sincerity and extremely valuable in terms of cooperation," Admiral Dennis Blair told reporters after meeting with Philippine military chief General Diomedio Villanueva.

President Gloria Arroyo was the among the first global leaders to offer assistance to the US in its campaign against terror following the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington.

Blair said a 51-year-old mutual defense treaty by Washington and Manila will help both governments address the "challenges of the future, including terrorism."

"We'll win over these challenges as we did in the past," Blair said.
