'm sure it wasn't, but I don't think anyone ever figured out why he was pumping up interest rates when there were no indications that inflation was any threat I suspect he's a compulsive worrier. Maybe that's part of the job description. He saw what he thought was a runaway stock market, thought "1920's", and hit the brakes. Hard. Way too hard, way too long. US policies in the region have always been pro-Israel to varying degrees and continue to be so. The US has come out in support of a Palestinian state. Apparently payback for Arab support of the US Afghanistan campaign. We'll have to see what that means though. Will the US lean on Israel? Cut off arms? We shall see.
